The 1959 visit to Australia by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association changed the face of the Australian Church. Over 106 days, an estimated three million people attended Billy Graham crusades across Australia and New Zealand. Graham and his team conducted meetings in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart, Launceston, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Crowds constantly broke Crusade records—records previously set in the world’s great metropolises of Los Angeles, London and New York. Making pioneering use of technology, the Graham team relayed services through landline connections to remote and regional communities.
Many hundreds of thousands more Australians heard Graham preach through their radios, on their televisions, or in their local newsreel cinemas. And they read about him on the front page of their newspapers.
Dr Graham’s visit continues to have an impact today and in this documentary, we speak to people like Archbishop Peter Jensen and Evangelist Ron Baker, whose lives were dramatically changed after listening to Dr Graham’s preaching.
